Summary: IEEE 1547 (Standard for Interconnecting Distributed Generation with Power Systems) underwent changes in 2018. Come hear about these changes and some of the lessons learned in applying this standard.
Certificates for CEU’s and PDH’s now require a fee from IEEE. Therefore this event will be $10 for each attendee requiring a Certificate. Number of CEUs/PDHs will be awarded per length of course. This meeting is free for all attendees not requiring a CEU/PDH Certificate.
Larry Conrad Larry Conrad is Owner/Manager of Conrad Technical Services LLC. He provides consulting services in electric power to electric utilities, renewable energy, and electrical design firms. Recent areas of focus include renewable energy integration, reliability, asset management, power quality, and distribution marginal costs. He is a registered Professional Engineer with B.S. degree and a M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Before forming Conrad Technical Services, Mr. Conrad was employed for thirty-six years in the electric utility business in a variety of roles including asset management, power quality, reliability, construction and maintenance. Mr. Conrad also invented voltage sag analysis for the IEEE gold book and harmonized North American flicker standards with IEC. He set the framework with European utilities for the IEC 61000-3-2 Millennium Amendment that reduced harmonics worldwide. He participated in development of the first IEEE DG interconnection standard 1547 and was on the ballot committee for the current revision. He a member of IEEE PES Distribution Subcommittee and a long time contributor to IEEE 1366 reliability reporting guide, past chairman of the IEEE Volt Var task force focusing on conservation voltage reduction. He is a long time member of and now chairman of ANSI Committee C84 which sets the voltage standards for the USA.
Wayne Stec is Principal at Distregen LLC, Carmel, Indiana which he founded in 1999. Wayne’s consulting roles include providing guidance for the interconnection of renewable energy, battery storage, and other DER to the electric power system. Clients include national laboratories, research organizations, electric utilities, equipment and service providers, and project developers.
Wayne is a member of IEEE and currently is active in the development of several standards organizations:
SCC21 – Technical Expert in Standards Coordinating Committee 21 that oversees the development of standards in the areas of fuel cells, photovoltaics, dispersed generation, and energy storage.
IEEE 1547.1 – Sub-group chair and co-chair in IEEE 1547.1 interconnection test standard
IEEE 1547.2 – Working group chair of IEEE 1547.2 application guide for IEEE 1547
IEEE PSRC – Active contributor in several Power Systems Relay Committee standards and task force documents
